Guest Post:
primeiros livros da trilogia Trust “Trust: A New Beginning” e “Trust: Betrayed”
e “O Homem Moderno”, uma pequena história filosófica.
O
a acontecer!”.

Guest Post: About a Real
Fictional Story
Hello, Ana, I’m so happy to be here with you and your
readers. An interesting topic I thought about writing was: Why readers get so
mad when an author who is clearly writing fiction loses touch with reality?
Should it matter? It’s fiction after all. Well, it matters. And much. I’m
talking about historical fiction or contemporary fiction, either romance or
thriller or any other, even paranormal, such as vampires and werewolves.
I’m an avid reader and a beginning author, having
published the first two books of the TRUST trilogy, Trust: A New Beginning and
Trust: Betrayed; and The Modern Man, a short philosophical story.
The first point is that we have to get the reader
hooked by the “suspension of disbelief”. To make themselves plunge into a story
that’s created by my imagination, based - or not, in real facts. It's what
enables us, as readers to care so deeply about people who don't actually exist;
their emotions become our emotions, their traumas become our tears. Nothing
written in other way will hook the reader if the characters don’t become real
to them.
A contemporary fiction novel such as the TRUST TRILOGY
includes real and fictional facts. All main characters, Sophia, Ethan and
Alistair, are figments of my imagination based on many blueprints mixed
together and some experiences I had during my life.
For example, Sophia, a lawyer widow, who moved to
London, fleeing from her past in her own country, is a woman that work as a pro
bono lawyer, in an Oil Company, in a foundation for abused women and child,
teach in Cambridge and - Ufff! if that wasn’t enough - she dotes on her
daughter and her house is keep neat and clean.
‘Oh, my God!’ the reader who hasn’t read the book
exclaims. ‘That’s impossible.’
No, it’s not. She is a billionaire, has a Brazilian
upbringing, where employees help with many things, has tons of CEOs, CEFs and
other qualified employees to do great part of her work. Besides, she expends
time with her daughter, who is her priority in life, and who also has tons of
employees to serve her, such as teachers, nannies and others. In fact, I’d say
Sophia has real few work to do herself. So, my readers aren’t yanked abruptly
out of the illusion that "this is not really happening." If Sophia
didn’t have employees or didn’t play with her daughter, the reader would be
presented with something that they know could not happen, therefore the
"suspension of disbelief" is shattered.
Hmm, I should keep it a secret, Ana, but Sophia is a
blueprint of a real woman.
In short, by failing to do a proper research or to
know the environment you are talking about; making real what actually SHOULD be
real, I’d risk ruining the illusion that any part of Sophia, Ethan and
Alistair’s story is real.
I thank you, Ana, for hosting me in your amazing blog.
This is an amazing opportunity to share my work and thoughts with your readers.
I’ll be available for those who are interested in posting or asking questions
on your website as I love getting in touch with readers, and also in mine where
there are news about reviews, tips for life and much more about the books and
characters.
